Abbey Wood is the south-eastern terminus of the Elizabeth line, opened in May 2022 as the anchor station for the Woolwich and Bexley end of the new line. The station is also served by National Rail services to central London, giving passengers a choice of routes. The surrounding area includes Lesnes Abbey Woods -a woodland nature reserve around the ruins of a 12th-century Augustinian abbey.
Abbey Wood Elizabeth line station was rebuilt and expanded as part of the Crossrail project, opening in 2022. It sits in Zone 4 and is the terminus for Elizabeth line services from Reading and Heathrow in the west. The journey to Liverpool Street takes approximately 25 minutes and to Paddington around 35 minutes.
The ruins of Lesnes Abbey (founded 1178) are set within 86 hectares of ancient woodland managed by the London Borough of Bexley. The woods have excellent walking and cycling trails and are particularly beautiful in spring when the bluebells flower. Entry is free.
