Bayswater is a District and Circle line station in Zone 1 on the north side of Hyde Park, serving the cosmopolitan neighbourhood of the same name. The area has long been one of London's most international - a dense mix of hotels, international restaurants, embassies and residential streets that gives it a particular character. Queensway, the main shopping street, runs south from near the station toward the park entrance and has a concentration of late-night restaurants and shops that stays lively long after most central London streets have quieted.
Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are a 2-minute walk south. The Long Water in Kensington Gardens, the Italian Gardens, the Serpentine Gallery and the Albert Memorial are all accessible from the Bayswater Road entrance. Notting Hill is 10-15 minutes walk north-west for the market area around Portobello Road.
Bayswater opened in 1868 on the District and Circle lines. It serves Zone 1 and is not step-free.
The District line (green) and Circle line (yellow) both serve Bayswater. Eastbound trains head toward Notting Hill Gate, High Street Kensington and the Circle line route through central London. Westbound trains run toward Paddington and the respective line branches. Journey to Paddington is approximately 3 minutes.
Bayswater has a small shop. Queensway immediately south has a wide range of restaurants and cafes open late most evenings.
Bayswater is not step-free. Paddington (step-free) is one stop west and a good alternative for accessible travel.
