Manor House station puts you at the junction of some of north London's most interesting neighbourhoods. To the east, Green Lanes runs northward through the Harringay and Manor House area lined with Turkish restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries and coffee shops that together form one of London's finest concentrations of Turkish food outside of Istanbul itself. To the south-east, a 20-minute walk through increasingly leafy streets brings you to Stoke Newington - specifically Church Street and the surrounding network of independent shops, cafes, restaurants and the Victorian park of Clissold.
Clissold Park is one of north-east London's finest open spaces, occupying a Victorian-era estate of 55 acres. The park contains a Victorian mansion now used as a cafe and events venue, a deer enclosure (fallow deer visible year-round), a butterfly tunnel, tennis courts, a paddling pool and two ponds that attract good birdlife. Clissold House, the mansion at the centre of the park, has a pleasant upstairs cafe with terrace views. Entry to the park is free at all times.
The Green Lanes Turkish quarter stretches from the station northward through Harringay. The density of Turkish food - proper sit-down restaurants with grill meats, meze and kebabs alongside baklava shops, bread bakeries and Turkish supermarkets stocking specialist ingredients - is remarkable for north London. The quality is generally high and prices are well below central London equivalents. This is food for the Turkish community that lives here, which makes it more authentic than most tourist-facing equivalents.
Manor House station opened in 1932 as part of the Piccadilly line extension to Cockfosters. It sits in Zone 3 and serves the Piccadilly line only. The station is not step-free. It is a major bus interchange for the surrounding Haringey area.
The Piccadilly line (dark blue) connects south toward Finsbury Park (3 minutes), Highbury and Islington, King's Cross (12 minutes) and central London. Northbound trains run through Turnpike Lane, Wood Green, Bounds Green, Arnos Grove and on toward the Cockfosters terminus.
Manor House has a shop and ticket machines. Green Lanes immediately outside the station provides extensive food and retail options, particularly the Turkish food cluster.
