About République

République is one of Paris's major political and cultural crossroads, serving five Métro lines on a vast square dominated by the 1880s bronze Marianne statue - symbol of the French Republic. The canal district of Canal Saint-Martin begins here, with its iron bridges, artisan shops and cafés. The square itself is a traditional gathering point for political demonstrations.
