Queensway station is on the Zone 1 stretch of the Central line between Notting Hill Gate and Lancaster Gate, giving access to Hyde Park's northern side via Bayswater Gate and to Queensway street itself, which is one of central London's more unexpectedly lively shopping and dining corridors. The street runs from the Bayswater Road south towards Kensington, lined with international restaurants, late-opening supermarkets and the historic Porchester Baths - a 1920s swimming complex that remains one of London's best examples of interwar public leisure architecture. Whiteleys, the former grand department store on Queensway, has been redeveloped into apartments, a boutique hotel and retail.
Queensway station opened in 1900 as part of the Central London Railway. It sits in Zone 1 and is served by the Central line only. The station does not have step-free access. It is between Notting Hill Gate to the west and Lancaster Gate to the east.
The Central line (red) connects west to Notting Hill Gate (with District and Circle line connections) and east to Lancaster Gate, Marble Arch and Bond Street. Journey time to Oxford Circus is approximately six minutes.
Queensway station has free TfL Wi-Fi and ticket machines. The surrounding Queensway street has a wide range of restaurants, supermarkets and shops open late into the evening. ATMs are available on Queensway itself.
Queensway does not have step-free access. There are stairs to the deep-level platforms. The nearest accessible Central line option is Bond Street (several stops east), which has step-free access.
Hyde Park - two minutes walk south via Bayswater Gate. London's largest central park. The Serpentine lake, Speaker's Corner and the Diana Memorial Fountain are all inside. Free.
Queensway - immediately outside the station. International restaurants, late-opening supermarkets and the historic Porchester Spa.
Kensington Gardens - fifteen minutes walk west through Hyde Park. The Orangery Cafe, Kensington Palace and the Albert Memorial are all in the gardens. Free.
Central line services at Queensway run from approximately 05:30 to midnight Monday to Saturday and 07:00 to 23:30 on Sundays. Night Tube operates on the Central line on Friday and Saturday nights. Queensway restaurants are open late most evenings; the art market on Bayswater Road runs Sunday mornings.
