How to Use the Riyadh Metro

  1. 1

Download the Darb app (iOS and Android) to buy QR-code tickets, plan journeys across metro and bus lines, and access live bus tracking - no physical card required.

  2. 2

Alternatively, buy a physical Darb smart card at station vending machines and tap in at the turnstiles.

  3. 3

Check the cabin type before boarding: First Class, Family (women and families), and Single (men) cabins are marked on the platform floor and train doors.

  4. 4

Transfers between lines at interchange stations like KAFD and STC Al Olaya are free within a 2-hour window on one tap.

  5. 5

  6. 6

Use one of 19 park-and-ride facilities across the city to drive to a metro station and continue by rail - free parking with a valid Darb card.

History of the Riyadh Metro

Launched as a cornerstone of Saudi Vision 2030, the Riyadh Metro is the world's largest automated metro network, spanning 176 km across the capital with 183 driverless trains. Designed by globally acclaimed architects including Zaha Hadid, the system integrates with the 1,900 km Riyadh Bus Project and 19 park-and-ride facilities, creating a comprehensive public transport network aimed at reducing Riyadh's dependence on private cars.
