Royal Oak is one of the quietest Circle and Hammersmith and City line stations in the entire network, sitting in Zone 2 between Paddington and Westbourne Park in what is primarily a residential part of west London. The station is rarely busy compared to its neighbours and serves mainly as a local stop for the residential streets of north Paddington. Little Venice canal junction is within walking distance to the north-west, and Paddington station with all its connections is just one stop east.

Westbourne Park - one stop west. Near Portobello Road Market and the Notting Hill area.
Circle line and Hammersmith and City line services at Royal Oak run from approximately 05:30 to midnight on weekdays and similar hours on weekends. There is no Night Tube on these lines. The station is quiet at almost all times.
