Tower Gateway DLR station is one of the original stations from the DLR's opening in 1987, sitting at the eastern edge of the City of London beside the old gatehouse that gives the station its name. The station is primarily a quieter alternative to Bank DLR for reaching this part of the City, and is well positioned for the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and the Thames riverside. Tower Hill Underground station (District and Circle lines) is a two-minute walk and usually the better option for connections, but Tower Gateway itself has a calm, elevated quality that gives good views over this historic area.
