Morgan Avenue

Morgan Avenue is the L train's stop for the eastern edge of Bushwick, Brooklyn, an area still dominated by warehouses, auto shops and light industry even as galleries and music venues have moved into the old loft buildings nearby. It is one stop east of Montrose Avenue, and while it sees fewer visitors, it is a well-known name to anyone following Brooklyn's DIY music and art scene.

The neighbourhood around Morgan Avenue does not look like a typical tourist stop, and that is exactly the appeal for the crowd who ride here on weekend nights. Only the L train stops here. West-bound trains head into Williamsburg and under the East River to Manhattan's 14th Street corridor, useful for Union Square and Chelsea. East-bound trains continue toward Bushwick's core and on to Broadway Junction, where riders can change for A, C and J trains, before the L terminates at New Lots Avenue.

Like its neighbours on this stretch of the L line, Morgan Avenue is elevated above the street, with a single island platform accessed by a staircase and elevator from the entrance below. There is minimal indoor space, so most passengers move quickly between street and platform rather than lingering inside the station.

House of Yes - about 10 minutes on foot. A well known Bushwick performance venue and nightclub known for elaborate themed parties and circus-style shows.

Bushwick Collective murals - roughly 15 minutes on foot. The open-air mural district centred around Jefferson Street and Troutman Street, one stop away by train or a longer walk from here.

English Kills Art Gallery - a short walk from the station, one of the neighbourhood's longer-running artist-run exhibition spaces.

Grand Street shops and eateries - a mix of casual restaurants and industrial-turned-creative businesses lines the streets south of the station.

Timings and Best Time to Travel

The L train runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with reduced frequency overnight. Weekday mornings and early evenings bring commuter traffic, but weekend nights can also get busy as concertgoers head to and from the area's music venues. Daytime hours on weekdays tend to be the quietest time to pass through.
