Business Bay

Business Bay is Dubai's answer to a downtown of glass towers, and this Red Line station sits right at its edge. The district is a forest of office and residential high-rises threaded by the Dubai Water Canal, and by day the station moves waves of professionals in and out of the surrounding blocks. It is one of the busier commuter stops on the line, with a distinctly corporate rhythm on weekday mornings.

The canal is what gives the area its softer side. A short walk from the station brings you to the landscaped Dubai Water Canal promenade, popular for evening strolls, jogging and waterfront cafes once the heat drops. The neighbourhood retail at Bay Avenue rounds it out with everyday shops and restaurants, so Business Bay works as both a working district and a relaxed place to spend an evening by the water.

Station Overview

Business Bay Station opened in 2010 on the Dubai Metro's Red Line. It sits in Zone 6 of the NOL fare system. The Dubai Metro runs fully automated, driverless trains, and Business Bay is an elevated station carried above the road on a viaduct.

Lines and Connectivity

Business Bay is a Red Line station. North-east the line runs towards Dubai International Airport and the Centrepoint terminus, while south-west it continues towards the Marina and the Route 2020 branch. Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall is one stop away, and for the Green Line you transfer at BurJuman or Union.

Station Layout and Structure

Business Bay is an elevated station with lifts, escalators and stairs linking the concourse to the platform above. Facilities include toilets, ATMs, NOL top-up machines and a staffed service point. Gold Class carriages sit at the front of each train and a women and children carriage runs in the middle, both marked on the platform.

Accessibility

Business Bay has full step-free access, with lifts between street level, the concourse and the platform. Tactile paving, audio announcements and platform screen doors are all in place, which helps on the walk towards the canal promenade with a pushchair or wheelchair.

Travel Tips

• Head for the Dubai Water Canal promenade in the evening, when it is cooler and the waterfront cafes get lively.
• Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall are one stop away on the Red Line rather than a comfortable walk.
• A NOL card costs AED 25 including AED 19 of credit and works on metro, bus, tram and marine transport.
• For the Green Line, change at BurJuman or Union.
• Gold Class carriages at the front of the train need a Gold Class NOL card or ticket.
• The metro runs Saturday to Wednesday 05:00-00:00, Thursday 05:00-01:00 and Friday 08:00-01:00.

Trains at Business Bay run Saturday to Wednesday 05:00-00:00, Thursday 05:00-01:00 and Friday 08:00-01:00. Weekday rush hours are around 07:30-09:30 and 17:00-19:30, when the office crowd is heaviest. Mid-morning and early afternoon are quieter, and evenings draw a more relaxed flow of people heading to the canal.
