West Finchley is a quiet residential Northern line station on the High Barnet branch in the London Borough of Barnet. It is primarily a commuter stop for the local residential area, with limited facilities at the station itself. Finchley Central, one stop south, has considerably more to offer in terms of local shops, restaurants and the feel of a more active local centre. West Finchley serves a pleasant suburban neighbourhood with large inter-war houses and good local parks accessible on foot.

Northern line services at West Finchley run from approximately 05:30 to midnight Monday to Saturday and 07:00 to 23:30 on Sundays. Night Tube operates on the Northern line on Friday and Saturday nights. The station is very quiet outside weekday rush hours.
