The Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés - the oldest church in Paris, with parts dating to the 6th century - stands directly on the square. Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots are 30 seconds walk, their terrace tables and wicker chairs unchanged in spirit from when Sartre, de Beauvoir, Camus, Hemingway and Fitzgerald were regulars. The surrounding streets extend into one of the highest concentrations of independent art galleries, specialist bookshops and luxury fashion in France.
