Hendon Central is a Northern line station in north-west London that serves as a useful commuter stop and interchange for buses across the borough of Barnet. The main draws from the station are the Welsh Harp Reservoir - a large open water nature reserve at the confluence of the River Brent and Silk Stream, popular for sailing, watersports and birdwatching - and Brent Cross Shopping Centre, accessible by bus. Middlesex University's Hendon campus is also nearby, making the station busy with students during term time.
Hendon Central station opened in 1923. It sits in Zone 3 and is served by the Northern line on the Edgware branch. The station does not have step-free access. It is between Brent Cross to the south and Colindale to the north.
The Northern line (black, Edgware branch) connects south through Brent Cross, Golders Green and into central London. Northbound, the line continues through Colindale and Burnt Oak to Edgware. Journey time to Leicester Square is approximately twenty minutes.
Hendon Central station has a small shop and ticket machines. The surrounding area on Brent Street has local shops, cafes and convenience stores. Brent Cross Shopping Centre, fifteen minutes by bus, has a more extensive retail and food offer.
Hendon Central does not have step-free access. Brent Cross station (one stop south) also lacks step-free access; the nearest accessible Northern line stations are in the central London direction at various Zone 1 and 2 stops.
Welsh Harp Reservoir - twenty minutes walk west. A large freshwater nature reserve with sailing, birdwatching and waterside walking. Free entry to the surrounding paths.
Brent Cross Shopping Centre - fifteen minutes by bus. One of north London's main shopping destinations, undergoing major redevelopment.
RAF Museum London - accessible from Colindale (one stop north). Free entry, over 100 historic aircraft.
Northern line services at Hendon Central run from approximately 05:30 to midnight Monday to Saturday and 07:00 to 23:30 on Sundays. Night Tube operates on the Northern line on Friday and Saturday nights. The Welsh Harp is best visited on weekday mornings for birdwatching when it is quiet.
