About the Red Line

The Red Line (Line 2) runs along King Abdullah Road (Al Uroba Road), one of Riyadh's key east–west arteries. The line serves major government ministries, embassies, and cultural institutions. A future extension toward the historic Diriyah UNESCO World Heritage Site is planned, making this line of critical long-term importance.

History

The Red Line follows King Abdullah Road, one of the most important administrative and diplomatic corridors in the Saudi capital. The road is flanked by government ministries, foreign embassies, and major institutional headquarters, ensuring strong daily commuter volumes from the outset. Long-term plans include an extension from the western terminus toward Diriyah - the birthplace of the Saudi state and a UNESCO World Heritage Site under active restoration as part of the Diriyah Gate development project. This extension would make the Riyadh Metro a direct gateway to one of the Kingdom's most significant cultural tourism destinations.
