Some stations are built for a moment, and Expo 2020 Dubai Station was built for a very big one. It was the grand terminus of the Route 2020 line, purpose-made to move millions of visitors to the world expo, and its sweeping roof designed to echo an aircraft wing quickly became one of the network's signature images. The event has since evolved into the permanent Expo City Dubai, and the station now carries residents, workers and day-trippers to that reinvented site.

Arriving here still has a sense of occasion. The concourse is enormous, the platforms wide, and everything is geared to funnel large crowds smoothly towards the entrance plaza. On weekends and event days it comes alive with families and visitors, while quieter weekdays reveal it as the calm, cathedral-like end of the Red Line's western branch. Either way, the metro remains the smartest way to reach the site without wrestling with parking.

Expo 2020 Dubai Station opened in 2021 as the terminus of the Route 2020 branch of the Dubai Metro Red Line. It sits in Zone 1 of the NOL fare system. Trains are fully automated and driverless, and the station is elevated, raised on a dramatic viaduct structure.

Lines and Connectivity

Expo 2020 Dubai is the end of the Route 2020 branch of the Red Line. From here trains run north-east through Jumeirah Golf Estates and Al Furjan before rejoining the main Red Line towards the Marina, Downtown and the airport. There is no interchange at the terminus, so any Green Line journey means changing lines at Union or BurJuman.

Station Layout and Structure

This is an elevated station on a grand scale, with a soaring canopy, wide platforms and multiple exits feeding the entrance plaza. Lifts, escalators and stairs link the concourse and platforms, and facilities include toilets, ATMs, NOL top-up machines, small shops and an information point. Gold Class carriages sit at the front of each train and a women and children carriage runs in the middle.

Accessibility

Expo 2020 Dubai has full step-free access, with lifts throughout and generous circulation space designed for peak crowds. Tactile paving, audio announcements and platform screen doors are all fitted, and the level walk from the station into the site suits wheelchair users, pushchairs and travellers with luggage.

Travel Tips

• The station feeds straight into the Expo City Dubai entrance plaza, so you can walk in without needing onward transport.
• Ride from Downtown and allow roughly 45 minutes end to end, staying on the Red Line and following the Route 2020 branch.
• A NOL card costs AED 25 including AED 19 of credit and works on metro, bus, tram and water transport.
• For any Green Line station, change lines at Union or BurJuman.
• The metro runs Saturday to Wednesday 05:00-00:00, Thursday 05:00-01:00 and Friday 08:00-01:00.

Trains at Expo 2020 Dubai run Saturday to Wednesday 05:00-00:00, Thursday 05:00-01:00 and Friday 08:00-01:00. Crowds peak on weekends and whenever Expo City hosts events, so weekday mornings and early afternoons are the calmest times to visit and enjoy the site at an easy pace.
