Sharaf DG

Sharaf DG marks the point where old Bur Dubai starts to shade into the busy residential neighbourhoods of Mankhool and Al Karama. This is everyday Dubai at its most characterful, a grid of mid-rise apartment blocks, corner grocers, curry houses and bargain shops where a huge cross-section of the city's residents actually lives and eats. The mood outside the station is practical and friendly rather than glossy.

Karama in particular is a favourite with in-the-know visitors for its inexpensive restaurants and its well-known market stalls, while a short ride or walk brings you towards the BurJuman shopping district, a long-established mall and one of the two points where the Green and Red lines meet. It makes Sharaf DG a handy base if you want good food and everyday shopping without landmark-district prices.

Station Overview

Sharaf DG Station opened in 2011 on the Dubai Metro's Green Line. It sits in Zone 6 of the NOL fare system. The Dubai Metro runs fully automated, driverless trains, and Sharaf DG is an elevated station raised above the road on a viaduct.

Lines and Connectivity

Sharaf DG is a Green Line station. One way the line runs towards Al Ghubaiba and under the Creek into Deira, and the other way it continues towards BurJuman and on across the Green Line. It is not an interchange itself, but the next stop at BurJuman is one of the two places you can change to the Red Line, the other being Union.

Station Layout and Structure

Sharaf DG is elevated, with lifts, escalators and stairs carrying passengers from the concourse up to the platforms. Facilities include toilets, ATMs, NOL top-up machines and a staffed service point. Gold Class carriages sit at the front of each train and a women and children carriage runs in the middle, both marked along the platform.

Accessibility

Sharaf DG has full step-free access, with lifts between street level, the concourse and the platforms. Tactile paving, audio announcements and platform screen doors are all in place, which makes the busy walk out into the Karama streets easier for wheelchair users and families.

• BurJuman is one stop on, handy for a bigger mall and for changing onto the Red Line.

Evenings are the time to come for the Karama food scene, which stays busy well after dark.
