Nation is one of the great interchange stations of the eastern Métro - four lines converge on a vast circular square dominated by the Triumph of the Republic, a colossal bronze sculptural group installed in 1899. Line 1 terminates here to the east before extending to Château de Vincennes; Lines 2, 6 and 9 all pass through on different axes. The RER A also connects from the adjacent station.
The area east of Nation gives access to the Faubourg Saint-Antoine - historically the centre of Parisian furniture-making and craft, now a mix of independent design studios, vintage dealers and independent restaurants.
Zone 1. Lines 1, 2, 6 and 9. No step-free access.
Triumph of the Republic - In the centre of Place de la Nation. An 1899 bronze sculptural group representing the French Republic. Free to view.
Promenade Plantée - 10 minutes walk north-east on Avenue Daumesnil. The world's first elevated park, built on a disused railway viaduct. Free.
Standard Métro hours. The surrounding 11th and 12th arrondissements are quieter than central Paris - good for evening dining away from tourist areas.
If you are heading to Place de la Nation, Nation is your closest metro stop on the Ligne 1. It also gives easy access to Triumph of the Republic statue and Promenade Plantée. Use the fare calculator to plan your journey cost before you travel.
Step-free access information is limited for this station. Contact the Paris Metro helpline for assistance planning your journey.
