Baniyas Square

Baniyas Square sits beneath one of the most historic public spaces in Dubai, the square that has long been the commercial nerve centre of old Deira. This is the trading heart of the city, packed with electronics shops, textile stores, currency-exchange houses and small hotels, and it hums with activity from early morning until late at night. The underground station puts you right in the middle of it.

For visitors, Baniyas Square is a gateway to the atmospheric side of Dubai that predates the skyscrapers, close to the dhow wharfage on the creek where wooden trading boats still load and unload cargo. It is busy, dense and full of character, and the metro offers a cool, orderly way to arrive before you dive into the crowds above.

Station Overview

Baniyas Square opened in 2011 on the Dubai Metro Green Line and sits in Zone 5 of the NOL fare system. It is an underground station beneath the square in old Deira, served by the network's fully automated, driverless trains.

Lines and Connectivity

Baniyas Square is a Green Line station in the underground Deira section. Trains run towards Salah Al Din and the elevated stops further out in one direction, and towards the Gold Souq, Al Ras and Al Ghubaiba in the other. For the Red Line, change at Union, which is close by, or at BurJuman.

Station Layout and Structure

Baniyas Square is an underground station, with lifts, escalators and stairs connecting the street, the concourse and the platform. Facilities include toilets, ATMs, NOL top-up machines, a staffed service point and small shops. Gold Class carriages are at the front of each train and a women and children carriage runs in the middle.

Accessibility

Baniyas Square has full step-free access, with lifts running from street level down to the platform. Tactile paving, audio announcements and platform screen doors are all in place, in line with the network's standards.

• The area is crowded and hectic at street level, so keep an eye on your belongings.
• Walk down to the Baniyas Road creekside to see the traditional dhow wharfage.
• Union, a Red Line interchange, is close by if you need to switch lines.
• A NOL card costs AED 25 including AED 19 of credit and works across metro, tram, bus and marine transport.
• The metro runs Saturday to Wednesday 05:00-00:00, Thursday 05:00-01:00 and Friday 08:00-01:00.

Timings and Best Time to Travel

Trains at Baniyas Square run Saturday to Wednesday 05:00-00:00, Thursday 05:00-01:00 and Friday 08:00-01:00. As a stop in the trading core of Deira it stays busy throughout the day and well into the evening, on top of the weekday commuter peaks around 07:30-09:30 and 17:00-19:30. Early afternoon on a weekday is the calmest window.
